REMOTE LIGHTING –
AROUND THE WORLD

Three years ago, you’d have said you had to be there to light the show.
Now, you don’t always get that choice.
We have the experience and tools to help you
when some of the team can’t be in the same room as the show.
See some of the shows we’ve helped…
Then find out how we could help you!

WAITRESS – JAPAN

when none of the lighting team could get into the country

Show Location: Tokyo

JOSEPH – LONDON

WHEN THE LIGHTING DESIGNER WASN’T ALLOWED IN THE THEATRE

Show Location: London
Lighting Designer: Devon
Programmer: London – in theatre

A positive covid test meant the lighting designer wasn’t allowed in the theatre for tech.

The solution: a custom single-screen display incorporating show video and console level and cue displays streamed in real time that allowed him to tech the show almost as if he was there.

BILLY ELLIOT – KOREA

WHEN NOT EVERYONE WAS THERE (AND NOT JUST LIGHTING!)

Show Location: Seoul
Lighting Designer: Seoul (but in isolation for two weeks)
Programmer: London

A positive covid test meant the lighting designer wasn’t allowed in the theatre for tech, and the programmer couldn’t get in to the country.

The solution: a custom single-screen display incorporating show video and console level and cue displays streamed in real time that allowed him to tech the show almost as if he was there, with the show programmed from London.

SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN – JAPAN

DEALING WITH CHANGING SCHEDULES

Show Location: Tokyo
Lighting Designer: Tokyo – in theatre
Programmer: London

Travel restrictions and quarantine requirements meant not everyone could be in the theatre. The lighting designer was in isolation for two weeks. The programmer was in London. Other members of the creative team were in the UK and Australia.

The solution: remote real-time video and comms, with a remote console set-up that allowed a lighting rig in Korea to be programmed from London.

THE OLIVIER AWARDS 2022

ISOLATING DURING PRE-PRODUCTION

Show Location: London – Pre Visualisation
Lighting Designer: Devon
Programmer: London – Pre Visualisation

The Lighting Designer tested positive (again!), and deciding not to risk being the one to bring down theatreland’s highest profile night of the year, went home to isolate rather than carrying on pre-visualising the show with his programmer.

The solution: remote real-time video and audio, carrying independent feeds of the WYSIWYG displays and the cue display from the grandMA3 lighting console, with Zoom for comms. Pre-programming could just carry on ready for the big night.
